A Minha Vida Sem Mim

O título original deste filme, My Life Without Me, de alguma forma ficou na minha memória, de todas as vezes que passei por ele (no clube de vídeo? na FNAC?). Cativou-me. Capturou a minha atenção. Decidi que tinha de vê-lo.

O argumento, adaptado do conto Pretending the bed is a raft, de Nanci Kincaid, pode ser tido como um banal cliché (a personagem que descobre que está a morrer e decide mudar radicalmente a sua vida e a forma como a encara); mas é exactamente por isso que condeno terminantemente qualquer pressuposto: nada como "ver para crer".

Ann, a personagem principal, brilhantemente interpretada por Sarah Polley, vive uma vida modesta de dona-de-casa, com as suas duas filhas e o seu marido Don (Scott Speedman). Depois de desmaiar, Ann vai ao hospital e descobre que tem um cancro no útero e que lhe restam apenas dois meses de vida. Tentando manter a cabeça fria, decide esconder a doença de toda a gente e faz uma lista de coisas que quer fazer antes de morrer.

Poderia pensar-se que o filme é uma tragédia, tendo em conta que estamos cientes que Ann não tem qualquer hipótese de sobreviver ao cancro. No entanto, julgo tratar-se exactamente do contrário: embora seja muito triste, a história não é sobre a morte; é, antes, sobre a alegria de viver e tudo aquilo que isso possa implicar. É sobre o desejo de agarrar todas as oportunidades que a vida nos dá. A morte é apenas o fio condutor.

O filme conta ainda com a presença de Amanda Plummer (do inesquecível Million Dollar Hotel de Win Wenders), Leonor Watling (mais uma musa de Almodóvar), Deborah Harry (mais conhecida como Blondie), a nossa Maria de Medeiros e o grande Mark Ruffalo.

Esta belíssima viagem pelas mais diversas emoções de uma condenada, é simplesmente arrebatadora.

Com catorze prémios dos mais diversos festivais, este filme mostra-nos a mestria de fazer coincidir a poesia do guião e das falas com as mais belas composições do quadro (planos).

E nada mais comovente que ouvir God Only Knows pela voz dócil de Sarah Polley.

Por fim, há que sublinhar a força das falas deste guião (soberbo). Em particular, todas as que nos são apresentadas em voz off (daí que o trailer seja tão bem conseguido, tendo estado nomeado para um prémio). Deixo aqui algumas quotes.

"Ann: Alone. You're alone. You've never been so alone in your whole life. "

"Ann: Now you feel like you wanna take all the drugs in the world, but all the drugs in the world aren't gonna change the feeling that your whole life's been a dream and it's only now that you're waking up."

Anyway, you kind of like being like this, fighting the cold, feeling the water seep through your shirt and getting through your skin. And the feel of the ground growing soft beneath your feet.
